Peer Review Process

Peer Review & Publishing Policy

  1. Submission of Paper

The corresponding or submitting author submits the paper to the journal. This should be via the London Paediatrics website. Articles may occasionally be received via email

  1. Editorial Office Assessment

The Editorial Office checks that the paper adheres to the requirements described in the journal’s Author Guidelines. The quality of the paper is not assessed at this point.

  1. Allocation to Handling Editor

The Handling Editor checks assesses the paper, considering its scope, originality and merits. The Handling Editor may reject the paper at this stage.

  1. Editorial Team Review

The papers are peer reviewed by a minimum of three paediatricians assessing scope, originality and academic merit. Articles may be accepted, accepted with revision or declined.

Reviewers will review article against their own expertise, conflicts of interest and availability. Additional expert reviewers will seek an additional reviewer if appropriate and again if appropriate additional reviews are necessary before publication.

  1. Handling Editor Evaluates the Reviews

The handling editor considers all the returned reviews before making a decision. If the reviews differ widely, the editor may invite an additional reviewer so as to get an extra opinion before making a decision.

  1. The Decision is Communicated

The Handling Editor sends a decision email to the author including any relevant anonymous reviewer comments.

  1. Next Steps

Outcomes to authors will be finalised within 6 months of submission, recognising twice yearly publication of the journal.  Some articles may occasionally have a longer timeline to publication depending on editorial meeting timetables.
